Day 1 of the Hitmen Ryder Cup has concluded, and both teams find themselves deadlocked as they head into the pivotal Day 2. While the scorecard shows an even battle, things seem far from calm in the Team World® locker room.
The opening round at Squaw Creek Country Club saw Penn State reveal a surprise move by introducing their new captains: Craig Fontana, Brandon Kashur, Logan Krawchyk, Dante Palmieri, Nicholas Vellky, and Matthew Welch. Though Team World® Leader Ben Somerville appeared outwardly unphased by the spectacle, something was clearly brewing beneath the surface.
Following the round, we caught up with Team World® players to gauge their reactions to Penn State’s captaincy stunt. Most brushed it off, appearing relaxed and nonchalant. But when we approached Somerville, things took an unexpected turn. His face turned red, and what followed was a tirade of chaotic outbursts—a mixture of garbled frustration, profanity, and unintelligible ramblings.
Pictured on the left is Somerville's reaction to our follow-up question. It’s clear that Penn State has, as they say, "rustled his jimmies." Whether this bubbling frustration will motivate or distract Team World® remains to be seen. One thing is certain: they’ll need to find their composure if they hope to secure victory tomorrow.
