The Hitmen Ryder Cup was formed from the ashes of the Hopewell Hitmen Hockey Club - as the zest for low stakes but meaningful competition drove the players to battle against each other on the golf links.
Founded in 2009 by the indomitable Captain Andrew Drake, the Hopewell Hitmen steadily carved out a reputation as the foremost force in Western Pennsylvania’s recreational deck hockey scene. Though their sticks and skates may not have dazzled with raw talent, the team’s heart and unwavering dedication more than compensated. Over the years, the Hitmen amassed an impressive nine championships, a record that speaks to their tenacity and camaraderie.
Captain Drake, ever the shrewd tactician, deserves special praise for his knack for spotting talent in rival teams and bringing it under the Hitmen banner. Many a player from the notorious Tiger Vikings and Scoregasms found their way onto the roster, playing pivotal roles in the Hitmen's rise to glory.
Though the days of competitive hockey may now lie behind these stalwart athletes, their years of triumph will echo through the halls of Western Pennsylvania’s deck hockey lore. Their reputation, solidified by grit and victory, remains untarnished and unforgettable.
